Auschwitz Birkenau Concentration Camp

I left at 6:45 a.m. to catch the tour to Auschwitz. It was about an hour from Krakow. Poland looks like it’s thriving. Cities are modern, homes are clean and well-maintained, and cars are expensive.

The visitor center at Auschwitz is beautiful but stark. Our driver left us with our guide Simon, whose great-uncle died at Auschwitz, just after liberation.

Three million Poles died at Auschwitz and Birkenau, almost all of them Jews.

It’s devastating to see the camps and displays of possessions, and it’s even harder to write about them.

I labeled some of the photos so if you hover over them, you can get an idea. I’ll try to write more later.
