A Deliberately Slow Start to my Time in Prague

Since nine days in Prague will be plenty of time here, I’m giving myself some time to rest and recover before I jump too fast into the tourist fray. There are definitely a lot of tourists here, including school groups.

I should still be in Spain but gave up on the Atlantic beach near France in San Sebastion for two reasons: the weather was dangerously bad and it was annoyingly difficult to get to on a fine day. I rethought that area as a place to make as a home base in Europe. If it is that hard to get to when I’m already in Spain, it doesn’t make sense to have to get there every time I land on the continent. My new insurance is flexible – worldwide coverage – so a place or starting point near Germany might make more sense. At least until I know more about Spain. The easiest place to fly into and out of is Barcelona.

Yesterday, I saw the famous town square and the astronomical clock. I did a bit of shopping at a wonderful mall called Palladian. Today, I walked to the river, over the impressive Charles Bridge, and back to my place by way of The Spot, a café associated with this Airbnb rental. I battled hoards of tourists in organized groups. There were at least a dozen school groups with both young children and teenagers.

The weather is iffy. Rain is coming. I have tentatively decided to get the 48-hour tourist pass for Thursday and Friday, which allows access to dozens of the major sights, then travel outside Prague for some places Pedro recommended on Saturday and Sunday.
